Trolls…
Haters…
Meanies…
Call them what you want, this topic has to be discussed.
The Internet has SO MUCH power.
Some choose to wield it for good, others sadly…for evil.
The fact that a negative comment on an Instagram post from a troll 8000 miles away can INSTANTLY ruin a person’s day is pretty scary…
But it’s reality.
Do I get haters?
Absolutely.
I guarantee I’ll get one of these emails within minutes of pressing send:
OMG WHY ARE YOU BLOWING UP MY EMAIL I HATE YOU SO MUCH YOU ARE SO ANNOYING!!^%$%!^!!
Do I let that email affect me?
No.
Why?
Because I know the reality.
Hurt people hurt people.
Now what does that mean?
People who are suffering, sad, depressed, angry, annoyed, mad, etc want to LASH out.
They want to rip the feelings from their chest and throw it out to the world.
They hurt.
And they want to hurt others.
To stop feeling hurt.
I sit up and take notice when a troll makes their way into my life, but after the initial reaction, I take a deep breath, and wonder what’s HURTING in that person.
And I feel compassion for them.
…
I’ve hurt before.
It sucks.
I’ve lashed out before.
That sucked too.
Next time you see a negative comment on your work, take a moment and say to yourself:
Hurt people hurt people.
Compassion helps.
To err is human, to forgive…divine.
