Trip prep is not a simple or a quick thing, especially when you think about all of the unknown variables surrounding travel.
Add to that the fact that you’re an entrepreneur and are responsible for running your own business and you’ve probably already started throwing your hands up in the air to say “this is going to be impossible!”
But it’s very possible.
Through this four part series on Trip Prep, it’s my goal is show you how.
When John and I started planning for our 60-day Europe trip that’s happening in the Fall of 2018, I set aside specific and dedicated time to make sure I had our travel plans in order, my work in order, and an actual plan in place to ensure I’d successfully reach my goal of BEING PREPARED come departure time.
The only part left is to actually do the work.
I’m excited to be sharing my process with you here.
Because the great news is, there are a set of steps you can follow to help you prep for your trip AND ensure you’re doing everything you can to set yourself up for success – while on the road and at home in your business.
The Push
In Part I of this four part series we talked about getting your travel in order and how it all starts with organization.
In Part II we discussed the steps you can take to get your work in order.
In Part III we covered how to put a plan in place with systems to help you accomplish your goal of being prepared come departure time.
Now, it’s all about DOING THE WORK.
The Push is the time period you’ve been prepping for.
Now it’s all about focusing, committing, and getting to check things off!
Here are the steps you need to take to make it happen.
3 Steps to Successfully Making it Through The Push
Step 1: Choose the task
In the first three parts of this series you’ve done a TON of prep work. Now it’s all about action.
Step 1 is to simply choose the task you’ll be working on during your focus period. This will likely be based on what day and time is it right now, since you’ve already set out your schedule for when each task will be accomplished.
So, we can already move on to Step 2 :)
Step 2: Review your schedule & system
Once you’ve chosen the task, take a look at your schedule to confirm the time you’ve set aside – that should be “right now”.
So let’s say it’s Monday at 7am.
I’ve chosen to focus on writing 2 blogs posts because looking at my schedule, Monday from 7am – 11am is the time I’ve set aside to do that.
Breaking it down into smaller time blocks, I’m going to just focus on the next 2 hours: from 7am – 9am. My goal: to completely 1 blog post.
Now, by pulling up the steps I take every time I create a blog post (which I wrote out in Part III), I know exactly what my marching orders are.
No guessing as to what step I should take first, or wondering whether I’ve missed a step. Putting a system together – in this case, a set of steps I take every time I write a blog post – I’ve helped set myself up for ultimate productivity and efficiency.
Step 3: Hold yourself accountable
It’s not always easy to hold yourself accountable.
Scheduling out specific times to accomplish certain tasks definitely helps, but without being disciplined and sitting down to actually do the work when you say you will, it’s going to be really tough to get through your list of tasks before departure.
Hold yourself accountable by using The Mastery Journal.
The Mastery Journal is set up to help you practice discipline and stay focused for a set time period in order to accomplish a task, so it’s really perfect for this purpose.
In the example I’ve used above, it’s Monday morning at 7am, and I have my list of steps in front of me for how I’m going to accomplish completing and scheduling a blog post over the next two hours.
With The Mastery Journal, I have 4 entries each day to help me detail out what exactly I need to do, like this:
