Today’s Audio MASTERCLASS: You Are More Than Your Addictions with Steve Olsher
[1:25] – Steve shares some things he believes about becoming successful that most people disagree with.
- He believes that success is not just about who you know; it is more about how you feel about yourself. Your inner worth matters more than your connections or network.
[3:13] – Steve talks about The (real) secret of life.
- The real secret of life is finding something that brings unconditional joy and ignites passion within you.
- It could be anything from a hobby like Jujitsu or music to a profession like coding or engineering.
- It does not have feelings or expectations; it is just there for you, 24/7, bringing fulfillment and happiness regardless of circumstances.
[6:10] – Steve shares some examples of addiction destroying everything.
- We all have some level of addiction, whether we realize it or not. It can range from positive addictions like fitness to negative ones like shopping, drugs, or alcohol.
- He struggled with a porn addiction for years without fully realizing its impact. Addiction takes a toll on every aspect of life, especially self-worth and sense of control. It was a shock for him to wake up one day and realize he had been under its grip for over a decade, affecting many areas of his life.
[8:39] – How can you recognize if you are starting or already on the path of addiction, and how does this process unfold?
- Addiction is more than just a word; it’s about compulsive behavior. It is when you tell yourself you won’t do something but still end up doing it.
- If you cannot stop despite wanting to, you are likely dealing with addiction. Even seemingly positive habits can become compulsive and take control of your life.
- It is essential to assess where you might be demonstrating compulsive behavior and understand the costs, even if the behavior seems beneficial. If you find yourself on this path, seeking help is crucial.
[10:49] – What steps can you take once you realize you need help with your compulsive behavior or addiction?
- The first step in anything, whether it is in business, relationships, or personal development, is to turn on the light switch of awareness.
- Many operate on autopilot, not pausing to consider their actions. Take inventory of your daily habits and behaviors, and ask yourself if there is any compulsivity behind them.
- Those closest to you can also offer valuable insight into areas where you might need to pay closer attention.

[17:58] – Steve shares about finding comfort in discomfort.
- In moments of discomfort, something often breaks, but that is not always a bad thing. Like in weightlifting, breaking down muscle tissue leads to growth.
- Stepping out of your comfort zone allows for personal growth. Growth comes from trying new things.
Few embrace the “record button” of life, opting for new experiences and challenges. Growth occurs when something new enters your life or emerges from within.
[24:03] – Steve gives his takeaway.
- Take a few minutes daily to journal. Reflect on your actions and time usage. Time can be spent or invested like money. Invest wisely for a better tomorrow. Try journaling for a week to see where your time goes.
[25:57]- Steve gives his call to action.
