3 Value Bombs
1) There’s true power in PR. Media coverage was a blessing for him as it gave him exposure and connected to amazing individuals in the industry.
2) Start small. A lot of times we want to go big quickly. While that is exciting, that is rarely sustainable. It’s all about impact and being sustainable. You have to start small to be in the game for a long time and have a lot of impact and legacy.
3) Know who you are and why you do what you do. That matters so much in your entrepreneurial journey because there will be people, opportunities, and temptations along and get you off of your path.

Today’s Audio MASTERCLASS: How to succeed as an Entrepreneur in dance and arts
[1:16] – Roger shares something that he believes about becoming successful that most people disagree with.
- Sleep is underrated. People keep saying you have to grind all day and night. You can sleep later on, but that’s not true. If you don’t get an adequate amount of sleep. You’re no good to yourself, and you’re definitely no good to the people that you serve.
[2:43] – How does one find success in dance and arts?
- It’s extremely difficult in the arts because we have to combat societal notions.
- A lot of people think the arts and entertainment are just for fun and that there’s no real value to it.
- You have to push so hard for people to just understand what you’re doing and see the value in it.
- It is so much more rewarding once you reach success because you know how hard you have to work to get there.
[3:50] – Roger’s journey to success.
- He started at 13 years old when his mom saw an ad for Fox 29. They were looking for young dancers to help boost up breathings and support the Morning News broadcast.
- He was the only gentleman selected. He then figured out how to dance formally, in a way that won’t hurt the body.
- He is getting paid to do something that he loves so much. He is now looking at 23 years in the industry and 12 years as an entrepreneur within it, creating opportunities for others coming up.
[5:35] – The business side of the evolution for Roger.
- In Philly, if you want to work as a professional artist, you have to do a lot of entrepreneurial aspirations.
- He became the agent, the manager, and the publicist at the same time to be successful.
- It was 2012 when he made it a formal business and named it Roger Lee Dance.
- He’s giving back through emerging artists coaching, helping them figure out how they want to get to their career destination.

- There’s true power in PR. Media coverage was a blessing for him as it gave him exposure and connected to amazing individuals in the industry.
- PR gives you credibility within your niche in your industry. It exposes you to partners, collaborators, and clients in a way that nothing else can.
[15:20] – Gaining positive publicity as an entrepreneur.
- Find your newsworthiness. We all have it. We have a hard time identifying it because we are so close to the work.
- Promote that newsworthy thing in a way that the media representative would appreciate. They need something that stands out.
- Be authentic. Don’t just reach out to somebody in the hopes of getting media coverage. Reach out to them because you are interested in connecting with them on a human level.
