Today’s Audio MASTERCLASS: How to Become an Influential Leader

[1:14] – Richard shares something that he believes about becoming successful that most people disagree with.

Most people believe that personality profile tests will tell you who you are and that you should stay in that box to be successful but this is completely false. It is useful for a moment in time but it doesn’t tell you who you are forever. You can expand yourself and lead your life to a future outside of the box and towards your true potential.

[3:05] – Richard talks about why there is a trend of massive interest in Leadership skills right now.

Leadership skills has three times the amount of demands when you look at Google trends and the reason behind this is people are really tired of the leaders they see around them. The last few years have been a moment of reflection for some people and they want to take charge of their own lives. To do this, they need leadership skills.
Entrepreneurs are seeking leadership skills because it allows them to take their life into the next level, to scale their business and to tilt the world as they see it in a positive direction.
There is a system that they can use to become an influential leader.

[4:45] – Richard talks about some people being better natural leaders than others.

There are really some people around you that are natural leaders.
He wrote a book entitled “You Were Born to Speak” to send the message that all of us are born with the ability to communicate more effectively quoting Yuval Noah Harari’s work.
When you are an influential speaker, you can create a greater impact in your business and in the economy.
He was a shy, introverted and had difficulty communicating when he was a kid. He studied communication, read over 200 books about it, studied acting in a professional acting school and created and published his own scientific research about the principles on how to be more influential and to be a better communicator. Now, his company is being paid millions of dollars teaching communication to clients all over the world. If it happened to him, anybody can learn to be an awesome communicator if they just know how it is done.

[7:51] – Richard talks about what are the best strategies to lead people when experiencing challenging times.

They build a system called the “Influential Leader Training” to help people how to really own their voice and lead their future so they can lead others through challenging times.
There are 3 major pieces to be aware of. First is understanding your powerful values and vision and tapping into your core. Second is having the archetype of a successful leader ,being agile to shift when challenges come your way and taking a purposeful journey that expands to who you are. Third is you have to have the science of influence who are working around you.

[14:13] – Richards talks about the #1 way to influence people.

The key to influencing people is to understand what already influences them. What is it that you can personally do to be of influence to others.
You have to know how to influence others through non-verbal behavior and communicate, engage and build rapport without using verbal words. Know the power of storytelling which is planting an idea into someone’s mind so deeply that it changes their behavior. Take note that the hero in your storytelling should be your audience. Lastly , have a rock solid mindset.

[16:52] – Richard shares about the materials he used when he taught the monks the English language.

Aside from a blackboard and chalk, he used non-verbal behavior , what he can physically and vocally do that in a way the monks can understand. The key here is congruency in the way he communicate having his body language, voice and habits go in the same direction as his message.
In business, entrepreneurs don’t realize the full congruency of their speaking words. They might be saying the right words but nit getting the right reaction.

[18:39] – Richard talks about what typically goes wrong when successful leaders hit a roadblock.

The challenge happens when things are going well because it is then that they get stuck in one mode, when everything seems to be working well until it doesn’t work anymore.

The key thing is to be really honest of where you are right now and think about the future you want to build and get clear with the currents habits you have right now that is deeply serving you. It is possible for you to communicate and lead, you just need to take that moment to invest in yourself and to grow yourself.
