Today’s Audio MASTERCLASS: Awakening the Mind
[1:03] – Peter shares something that he believes about becoming successful that most people disagree with.
- Most people strive in the world for success to be the best that they can be but that builds up their ego. Letting go of ego is where tranquillity and happiness reside. You can be just as effective in the world without an ego as with an ego. Just do the best that you can do and not be the best that you can be.
[3:11] – Peter talks about why tranquillity is important.
- We live in a high stressed world that is why many people are looking for tranquillity.
- To make a transformative work on yourself and be truly happy, we need to see the patterns in our mind that are keeping us from happiness. It can be an ego to keep up or an attitude to be successful or fear patterns that is running in your mind.
- In order to get rid of those patterns is to be able to see them. Tranquillity is the tool to see those patterns in your mind.
- Until you are in the state when you are calm and tranquil, you will be able to sit with those patterns and watch them arise. That is the key importance of tranquillity.
[4:57] – Peter talks about the benefits of tranquillity.
- Tranquility helps not only in the identification but also in the healing process.Calmness is needed in the process of healing the body as well as the emotion, mind, mental issues and spirituality.
- Tranquility is the basis for genuine happiness. Happy people tend to be more calm and calmness lead into the state of more genuine, on going, baseline happiness.
[6:54] – Peter talks about what he is doing now when it comes to tranquillity.
- Meditiation is an old practice that’s been going on for 2500 years . It is the key part of practice but it has to overflow to an attitude.
- He practice meditation everyday, twice a day for 45 minutes to 1 hour. He wants to overflow that to 24 hours a day to maintain that state of awareness and tranquillity in everything he does.
[9:16] – JLD quotes “in the future, you will be nostalgic for this moment”, Peter shares his thoughts about it.
- For highly stressed people, meditating and learning to be in the state of awareness through observation creates a detachment from their stress and makes them feel better and to keep on going.
- Being in an observation over time transforms into a state of love for whatever it is that they are observing and naturally the tranquillity comes in.

[14:38] – Peter talks about what is wrong with the way most people practice tranquillity.
- As westerners, we apply what works and we want our approach to be smart and with a good logical mind. We apply effort and really concentrate so its natural to use it in medtiation too.
- Forcing his mind to become quiet and really concentrate is not working for him for 25 years.
- One teacher showed him another way and that is to bring a whole separate part of the mind that is called Awareness and that is by not using our attention to hone in anything. We go to this awareness when we are relaxed. Its learning how to step on that awareness part of the mind that brings a new dimension and tranquillity and happiness.
[18:13] – Peter talks about what are the key ingredients that people need.
- You need access to good teachings and methodologies that work.
- Having a mentor that is a few steps in front of you is important.
- The support of a community that are passionate as you.
[21:19] – Peter gives his key takeaway.
- The need for tranquillity comes naturally when we are in a high state of stress.
- People tend to drop the pursuit of further tranquillity when they get through the difficult period and go back to old habits and repeat the cycle.
- If you find a good thing and it is working for you, don’t give up and pursue it to the end.
