- She blossomed in college and became a model. The used the money that she earned from her modelling to put up a Food Truck business called Nom Nom Truck. In just a year she received different accolades and she was able to build a 7 figure business. It was a hit because they where able to ride the food truck wave but in terms of a business model, it was unprofitable because they don’t prioritize catering. All her savings was gone after 4 years in business, she and her partner became burned out and had a big falling out. All the liabilities was on her and it ended her with a 6 figure debt, a law suit and she lost her identity as an entrepreneur.

[14:27] – Misa talks about losing herself and her authenticity when she was raising money in Silicon Valley.
- After she closed her food truck business, she thought of raising money in Silicon Valley for a Start Up. She was passionate about customer service and she and her husband created a Start Up of Surveys in the customer service space. She didn’t realize how difficult it is to raise money in Silicon Valley. She recruited a mentor who told her to change the way she dress and other things about her to become the “Tiger Type of Asian” so she can raise money. She succeeded but it comes with a cost and that cost is losing herself and her authenticity.
[18:26] – Misa talks about following the breadcrumbs towards finding her authentic self again.
- She moved out from Silicon Valley . When her daughter was born, she wanted to be an authentic mom to her. Moving back to California and away from Silicon Valley was the right move she did. In less than a year after giving birth she decided to pursue Leadership Development Course in Harvard Business School and that was her game changer for she discovered what type of leader she is.
[20:27] – Misa talks about what is ikigai, what is her ikigai and what success has it specifically led her to.
- The survey company that she has 2 years was doing well but it was not her true passion. She has a friend named Brandon Lee who is specialized in helping entrepreneurs find their Ikigai. Ikigai is a Japanese term referring to something you are extremely passionate about and it is not just a hobby but one that you can make money out of. She took the test that he gave her and it showed her strength that is to uplift many people. Initially she thought that it was through public speaking but later she realized it is a community that she needs to build.
- She built a community for Asian-American Female Leaders so that they will feel less alone and more connected to one another and it was an overnight success. Here she writes authentic stories all day long where people can relate to.
