John: Who’s ready to rock today, Fire Nation? JLD here with an audio master class on reaching peak performance, fine-tuning your health and habits for success. And to drop these value bombs, I have brought Maggie Berghoff, who is a top peak performance expert for entrepreneurs, CEOs, athletes, and influencers.
She fine-tunes health habits and mindset and gives you an exact game plan to reach your highest potential. And I am speaking from first-person experience, Fire Nation. Maggie was my personal peak performance coach for six months over 2018, and I am a much healthier individual, more energized individual, and so much more because of it.
So, we’ll be diving into Maggie’s value bombs shortly when we get back from thanking our sponsor.
Maggie, say ‘what’s up’ to Fire Nation and share something interesting about yourself that most people don’t know.
Maggie: What’s up, Fire Nation. So excited to be here. Something interesting about me that most people don’t know, and I don’t share a lot, is actually at the age of 22, I had a stroke. Full-blown TIA, a mini stroke, and it up in the hospital, and was able to fully recoup from that and basically revamp my life. It was a really big pivoting turn for me.
John: Well, Fire Nation, that would be shocking if you knew Maggie how I know her, which is –
Maggie: Yeah.
John: – one of the healthiest people that I know. In fact, as I mentioned in the intro, she was my peak performance coach for six months, and we just completely fine tuned my environment down here in Puerto Rico.
Maggie, I have so many things I could just look at right now like my water and my air and my EMF and all these different things that are so improved because of everything that we did well we worked together. And that’s what we’re talking about today, Fire Nation is you reaching peak performance by fine-tuning your health and habits so that you can achieve the levels of success that you want to achieve.
So, Maggie, nobody is better than you to deliver this audio master class. Give us a little teaser of some things that are going to be coming up over the course of our conversation.
Maggie: Awesome. We’re going to get really deep into, like you said, in some environmental changes you can make in your home so that it is so pristine and healthy that you don’t even have to think about it, but you’re actually getting the benefits.
We’re going to go into specialty functional medicine testing and what they can do for your body and what you can learn and really had a fine-tuning your nutrition every day so that you’re getting the most energy and potential out of your body as possible.
So, of course you can be more productive, make more income, and just be a healthier, happier person.
John: Fire Nation, I can promise you that if you are not fine tuning these different things in your environment, if you’re not putting some focus and some energy into the things that we’ll be talking about here today, you are not going to achieve the level of success that you are capable of, period, end of story.
And I’m speaking from first-hand experience. I’ve been running a seven-figure-a-year business now for seven years, but guess what? It wasn’t until three or four years ago that I really started taking this stuff seriously that I realize how much I was missing out on by not doing this for the first three or four years of the business.
So, please stay focused. Please just concentrate on these value bombs that Maggie’s going to be dropping, and let’s just kick it off, Maggie, by talking about how you’re a big believer in focusing on balancing internal health in order to attain peak performance. Why is this the first step?
Maggie: Yeah. So, if you have imbalances going on in your body, your performance is directly harmed, whether you know it or not. You may feel like your symptoms are normal because you’re a hustler and you’re doing all these things and you’re up early and you’re staying up late, but in fact, it’s doing damage inside of your body that can be long-term and eventually decrease your productivity and progress.
So, looking inside of what’s going on inside of your body chemistry, because you’re so unique unlike any other person, you really need to know what’s going on inside of your body, and then it becomes very, very simple to optimize those things.
So, to tap into your full energetic potential by rebalancing hormones, fixing nutrient imbalances, checking out and seeing what’s going on in your gut. Do you have a parasite you don’t know about? All those little details that we don’t have a clue unless we do the testing to know what’s going on.
John: Fire Nation, this is the first step that’s absolutely critical, and this is what Maggie and I went through when we first started working together earlier in 2018, and one thing that I definitely noticed right away, Maggie, is that you have a very unique process for your clients.
Talk about how your process of fine-tuning health is different than a lot of other people’s out there.
Maggie: First of all, we’re getting the testing done. So, when you come into practice with me, we’re not doing some one-size-fits-all even if I think that it may be the answer, we’re quantifying. So, on a super nerdy scientific level, we’re knowing what is going on inside of your body, but then what happens is through an assessment that you’ll fill out, I'm able to do the thinking and linking into what order we need to address those imbalances we found, because that is very important.
And what I mean by that is sometimes people will say oh I'm so tired, I'm bloated, yada, yada, hey, I'm going to do this detox, when in fact, based on your assessment and your symptoms and your lab results, perhaps a detox would make you very, very much worse.
And so, typically with many of my clients, we’re waiting to do a detox until well into working together when the body is nourished and balanced and feeling amazing already, and then we are able to flush those things out.
So, it’s really about the assessment and then the order of which we heal and adjust the body based on you specifically. Your desires, your goals, your needs, your lifestyle, where you live in the world, are you in downtown New York City or sunny Puerto Rico.
John: Fire Nation, you are a snowflake. There’s no two of you. You are unique. There’s just no other identical you out there, which is exactly why you need your own customized plan, period, end of story.
I don’t care if you have an identical twin. You need your own personalized customized plan for you, for the environment that you live in, for the place and location, all these things, and of story
And that’s where the assessment comes in, and this assessment for me was actually very revealing when I went through that process. That’s the first step. Everything else comes next. And now, Maggie, one thing that you opened my eyes to is diet. There're just so many diets that are out there. There’s keto, there’s paleo, there’s Whole30, there’s being a vegan, there’ just eating nothing but dairy, there’s eating absolutely no dairy, that’s eating lentils, there’s not eating lentils, I mean how do you guide your personal clients to chose the plan that benefits them the most?
Maggie: Oh my gosh. Even just listening to list off those things, gives me a little bit of like anxiety and confusion and frustration, because I remember looking online trying to find the perfect plan to follow, and then I would compile all the plans because I wanted to do everything at one time.
And it’s just chaos. It wastes time, it wastes your brain energy, it wastes effort, and it wastes money of trying these things. The only way to really know what diet will work for you – and let me ask you guys, wouldn’t this be nice if you just new black and white what you were supposed to do?
Maggie: Yeah. Tell me what to eat. I’ll eat it.
John: Exactly. We know what to do. We’re productive and we are willing to do what it takes to feel great and to make a difference in our body and in our life. So, we know how to do that. We have the tools and the knowledge skills to know exactly black and white what you should do for your body.
So, that’s what we do for nutrition. We find out, via testing, what your specific food intolerances are. So, what that means is what food you’re eating, eating and healthy food, I've had clients eating lemons, lettuce, celery that those foods are actually inflaming the body causing damage.
So, we can find out what foods are causing damage and what foods are super nourishing. So, what foods we need to add in. It’s not just about taking away, it’s also about adding in. So, we can find out exactly what foods to eat. Based on your metabolism rate, we can find out exactly the proportions of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins your body fuels best on.
And we want to allow your body to have those types of macronutrients and micronutrients that it fuels best on, because then its job becomes easy. And when its job becomes easy to break down your food, absorb nutrients, and turn those nutrients into energy for you, it can focus on other things.
Like keeping your brain sharp, like giving you energy throughout the day without crashing, like making restful sleep, and being a more balanced individual. So, we can find out these little details about how we need to cater and curate your nutrition plan based on you specifically, and then it just becomes so simple.
John: Fire Nation, trying to figure out the amount of macros and carbs and fats and proteins and all these other things, it may seem like a lot of work we actually sit down and it’s like oh my god, that just seems overwhelming, but it’s actually the exact opposite.
What’s overwhelming is just having no idea and continued to go forward in life not really knowing, just saying oh I kinda feel bloated after that meal or oh I'm so stuffed or oh I’m super hungry 30 minutes after eating that like how is that even possible.
It’s so much easier when you can just have somebody after you’ve done the testing and you actually know hey, this is how much I should be eating of X, Y, and Z, then you know this, you create pre-meals, I like to do this every single Monday, actually Kate’s amazing at doing this for me, she just puts in the fridge exactly what I need to be eating in the amounts I need to eat.
There’s all the bandwidth back. There’s all the mental thought and process back that I used to have to invest in what I was going to eat, how do I feel. Now I know, end of story. We portion out appropriately after learning one time, and then we go forward. I continue to listen to my body of course, but I know that I’m doing at the very least very close to exactly what my body needs at that moment in time.
Now, taking a step back, I know that investing in myself as an entrepreneur, as a podcast or, invest in my health, I mean it’s always been a huge win for me.
Back in 2012 when I invested in Jaime Masters to be my mentor, she was a podcasting host of the Eventual Millionaire. She guided me through the process of those early steps. She was wary wanted to be. Investing in Maggie, because here’s an incredibly healthy person who has all the knowledge that I don’t have when it comes to health and wellness and nutrition and [inaudible] [00:11:09], and microbiomes and all these different things that I don’t have right now and I’m focusing on other things in my life businesswise that she can then give me and gave me that focused, customized plan. There was a huge win for me.
So, how can my listeners, how can Fire Nation know, Maggie, if they need to invest in this type of service for their health, for their wellness?
Maggie: Yeah. So, to be honest, everybody should be doing this even really healthy people. I do it every single year. I get annual lab work done on myself to make sure that I’m staying healthy. I even know – I was with Richard Branson last October, and we were having a conversation together in Africa, and he does the exact same thing except for every six months.
Labs, testing, fine tuning, because we know that that is optimal. I mean if you can feel your best every single day, why not? So, that’s everybody. But also people who are starting to feel symptoms of burnout is a huge red flag that you need to get your stuff together and start investing in your health.
It’s the only thing that you have 100 percent control over, your body. So, really investing in you is important. Symptoms of a burnout would be fatigue, sleep problems, bloating, you know, you can be running to the bathroom and having to use the restroom all the time when you’re supposed to be up on stage giving an important talk and looking powerful and strong and healthy, right? No.
You need to make sure that your gut health is on point. You’re not struggling from headaches and migraines and skin issues and your hair thinning and falling out. So, any kind of little nagging symptom that you have noticed starting to creep up, that’s when you need to pay attention and act now before it gets worse.
John: It’s the only thing you have 100 percent control over, Fire Nation, your body. I mean if you’re experiencing burnout, fatigue, if you’re just having issues, this is critical. And let’s maybe dive into a little more specifics, Maggie, like what are some of these things that these labs will tell us? When we do these labs and then we have a professional actually interpret these labs for us, what are they telling us?
Maggie: It tells us where we need to focus our attention. So, where we need to help the body out just like how I helped you out with you not having to focus your attention on your health, I got that covered for you, right? So, I give you the easy-to-follow plan.
So, it’s up to you to use these labs to help your body out in the same way, to tell your body hey, I got you covered. I know what you need now. Here’s what it is, and to nourish your body in that way not just through food by through your lifestyle habits, your healthy habits, your – the way you wake up every morning, what you do at night before bed, all of those things.
So, these tests will show us exactly what we need to do to optimize and give your body the easiest job as possible, and that’s really what we’re focusing on here is finding out what we need to do there.
John: So, Fire Nation, when Meg and I worked together, we focused on creating an environment to thrive. So, don’t go anywhere, because we’re going to be diving into details on exactly what that looked like and how you can learn or take that knowledge that Maggie shared with me and apply it to your life when we get back from thanking our sponsor.
So, Maggie, we’re back, and as I said before the break, we worked together for six months, and we really focused on something that I love that you called creating an environment to thrive.
We did this over the course of the six months, and share with Fire Nation now, why is this such a critical piece to success?
Maggie: By creating an environment to thrive, what I mean is making sure that your home environment, your office environment, the car you drive in, anything that you have true control of is so healthy and conducive to healing and energy and potential that when you step outside of that curated environment like traveling abroad or on a plane or speaking at an event under a bunch of bright lights, your body’s not impacted negatively by those hits.
So, your body is so optimized in an everyday setting that it can handle the day-to-day things that happen, because let’s be honest, we’re not avoiding toxins, we’re not avoiding EMFs, we’re going to live in this modern world. It’s not about being a purist and hiding under a rock. It’s about optimizing what you can.
So, creating an environment to thrive, we’re looking at your air, your water, the EMF, which is electromagnetic frequencies in your home, and we’re looking at food, making little changes in those areas that seem like no big deal, because they’re simple changes, but over time they add up to make this huge impact on your body where every day when you wake up, you know your body is surrounded by an environment that is conducive to healing and staying well long-term, and you don’t have to even think about it.
John: Air, water, food, EMFs. Fire Nation, they’re just little things that you can do that are going to add up to massive results, not tomorrow, not next month, but six months, a year from now that is mind blowing.
I mean I remember one thing that Maggie, that you and I did, was I identified that hey I have this Alexa in my office, a very small office that I have here in my home in Puerto Rico, I'd never use it. Ever, ever use in my office. I just have no need for it, but it’s kicking off all these EMFs.
And so, why do I even have it in my office. Is that going to make a big difference over the next couple days? No. But might it over the next couple years? Absolutely. And you know, taking my water, I invested in the Aquasana. So, now I have two Aquasanas in my house so that the water gets filtered through. Now, I’m drinking such cleaner water.
I've even taken another step, Maggie, since we chatted and I’ve put a Berkey. Now, I take the Aquasana water and I put it through a Berkey system, and I'm doing all these really cool things that are just going to data up to amazingness down the road again not tomorrow but long-term, and that’s what’s key, Fire Nation, taking these right steps that are going to add up to just awesomeness.
Now, you’re super busy, Maggie, I mean you’re in San Diego as we talk. You’re traveling. You’re doing conferences. I’m super busy. But how does a person who is already so busy like me, like you, like everybody listening to this podcast, how do we prioritize this stuff?
Maggie: It’s funny. It actually makes my life less busy when I prioritize this. It actually makes me and my clients feel better, more energetic, healthier, more laser focused, we’re not dealing with brain fog and anxiety and worry.
So, when we prioritize our health and our body is feeling amazing every day and we’re waking up with all this energy, and we’re feeling motivated and driven, the busyness and the stress and chaos of everyday life kind of goes away.
So, focusing on your health first focusing on your health first, which is at the core of everything you do, it truly does impact directly on your revenue, on your relationships, on your ability to be a good dad, friend, brother, sister, whatever, prioritizing that first, and every aspect of your life becomes actually easier and more simple.
John: Because of all these things that I’ve done, Fire Nation, my quality of sleep is so much higher, and then I’m able to tackle the day so much harder. And that’s just one of the things that’ve been a benefit of all these different things of prioritizing health and creating a thriving environment and doing all of this stuff.
Now, there are people that are listening, Maggie, that might be like okay, that’s cool, I might do a little tweak here a little tweak there, but I already feel amazing. So, what can this fine tuning their health actually do to benefit those people?
Maggie: So, if you already feel amazing, there’re probably a few nagging things that you could get rid of in your life that make you feel – even if it’s just 5 or 10 percent more amazing. So, even if you can get a little more energy or a little more sex drive or a little less headaches or bloating, and a little help is going to make a huge impact, especially for you.
And then also if you already feel amazing, it’s up to you to raise your standards and to know that what we do right now is so important in what we do in the future. So, it does take forward thinking of thinking okay, my steps right now are impacting me in 5, 10, 15 years down the road. What am I going to do now to make sure that in 10 years I’m still feeling and looking as amazing as I do now.
So, it’s really about making sure you’re prioritizing and forward thinking to your ultimate and goals of what you really want long-term for your health, your wellness, your business, and your relationships.
John: And Fire Nation, your version of feeling amazing, by the way, is relative. I know that my version of feeling amazing a year ago is completely different than me feeling amazing today. And my version of feeling amazing four years ago, if I felt like that right now for even a minute, I’d be oh my god, how did I make it through a day, because it just is relative. It’s your set point. So, we need to continue to up our set point. You don’t even know what feeling amazing is until you start to implement these different things.
Now, Maggie, let’s bring this chat to a close. We have something for Fire Nation to figure out if it’s right for them to take the next step. You have a really cool assessment. So, talk about that and what that’s going to look like for people that want to take that next step and learn a little bit more about themselves and their body.
Maggie: Yeah. So, I have a science-based assessment that I – all of my private clients take before working with me, and it really helps me to do the thinking and linking and see what we need to focus on, what systems we need to target, and in what order.
What we don’t need to focus on. So, what things are going to heal naturally when we address these are the things that are more upstream.
So, with this assessment, we know so much about your body and how to heal it, and I’m giving that to you all. So, that’s going to be a freebie for everybody. You can download the assessment. Do it yourself. Just click it, you’ll get the answers and get insight and clarity into what’s going on in your body. It’s amazing. The more you can know about yourself, the better. I am such a believer in finding out as much about you as possible for growth. And so, that’s an amazing tool.
And then, I’m also doing a mini consult. So, if you’d like to, we can go over your assessment, your results, or your symptoms that you’re dealing with and talk about what the best next steps specifically for you would be. Not some trendy one-size-fits-all thing for you to try, but actually scientifically based on your body chemistry. Your goals. What would be the best plan.
And that’s usually a $297 mini consult, and we’re just going to do that complimentary for just you, Fire Nation folks. So, I know John has a link for that, I'm really excited for you guys to take advantage of that.
John: And I do want to jump in here, Fire Nation, because I worked with Maggie for six months, and I knew obviously that what I was getting was incredibly high-quality information, and creating an environment to thrive was so key.
And so, her and I were talking, and I was saying listen. I want to bring you on the show, but I really want to do something for Fire Nation that’s pretty darn special, because listen, Fire Nation, I care about you as listeners. You’re the reason why this show is so impactful.
And so, if I can give the gift of feeling better, feeling more energized, then I want to give you that gift if possible. So, I will say, I did have to twist Maggie’s arm. She was very open to it, but I did have to say listen Maggie, if I bring you on, I really want –obviously this assessment’s huge, but this $300 mini consult you do, will you do it for Fire Nation for half off.
She said, you know, John, I'm going to one-up you there. I'm going to do it for your audience for free. So, Fire Nation, this is a $300 gift that Maggie is essentially giving to you, because this is her time. This is Maggie, who is very busy. She has a family. She has a husband. She has kids. A lot of things are going on. She’s traveling.
But this is a gift that she’s giving to you, because she cares about me and about Fire Nation and that’s you. So, head over to EOFire.com/Maggie. M-A-G-G-I-E. EOFire.com/Maggie. Take the assessment. It won’t take you long.
On the thank you page, there’s going to be an opportunity, if you want, to sign up for a mini consult with Maggie for free. Again, people are paying her $300 all the time for this. It’s free for you, and it is going to be for a limited time, because she can't offer this forever.
So, definitely jump over. EOFire.com/Maggie. Take the assessment. That alone will be very valuable for you, and then if you want to, jump on this mini consult with her, and she will crush it for you.
So, Maggie, kinda just end this with a bang. Give us one big takeaway that you want to make sure all of Fire Nation really walks away with when it comes to our health, our wellness, our life, and then we’ll say goodbye.
Maggie: The biggest take away is that it’s your responsibility to take care of body, because you directly impact every single person you come into contact with every day, whether it be work or somebody at the grocery line. How you present yourself, the habits that you take control over, how you look, how you feel, your energy on those people.
So, prioritizing your health isn’t just about making more money in your business. Feeling better, sleeping better. It’s really about the impact in the vision that you’re putting onto the world. So, your responsibility to take this into your hands, you have 100 percent control over it. You get to choose how you feel and look every single day.
John: Fire Nation, you’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with, and you have been hanging out with MB and JLD today. So, keep up the heat.
