3 Value Bombs
1) Get to run through walls, get some revenue flowing and begin to build around on that.
2) Getting the right person where you can build a culture around and finding somebody who is smart, hungry to learn and humble is very important.
3) Gratification is finding success and sharing it with other people.

Today’s Audio MASTERCLASS: People Want to Work, Just Not for You
[1:12] – Justin shares something that he believes about becoming successful that most people disagree with.
- When starting a business, you have to run through walls and not to worry much about the planning and processes. Get to run through walls, get some revenue flowing and begin to build around on that.
[2:03] – Justin breaks down about Generation Gap.
- When he started in his first business, his dad was one of his business partners who belong to the Baby Boomer generation. They have different view on treating employees.
- If you treat all employees like volunteers by giving them more options and create an environment where they can work regardless of their age, you can make them want to continue to show up to work and get more effort out of them. In this way, you can adapt with the generation gap.
[4:24] – Justin talks about Job vs Career vs Passion.
- Before, he hired people within a certain age group (25 – 32 yrs old) but now that the society is different he is hiring younger people.
- He looks for those individuals that are “diamond in the rough” and give them an opportunity by creating an environment where they can bring out their potential.
[6:19] – Justin tells more about why he believes a person can’t fake caring for people.
- A lot of his success happened when he started to care about the people he is working with and wanting them to succeed.
- Develop a data set over time and have a balance between overly operationally minded and overly emotionally minded because some people learn faster than others.
- When you hire people, put in mind that not all have the same credential and potential. Having the passion to look for those people in the hiring pool is important.

[12:11] – Justin tells about his first hire experience.
- When you first hire people know why would they want to work for you and who are you.
- Getting the right person where you can build a culture around and finding somebody who is smart, hungry to learn and humble is very important.
- It will be difficult in the beginning but once you gain the momentum, hiring will be easy because they will come to see the culture you created.
[14:38] – Justin believes age is just a number.
- Don’t rule out interviews based on age, look for the skills sets.
- Look at the resume and at the person and not on the demographics.
- Find the right people with the right personality, the right character and with the right initiative.
[17:32] – Picking the right leader.
- Take the top performers in the arena because they will be the best midlevel managers. Let them replicate their efforts to train others for this will make them feel like leaders , boost them and give them gratification.
- Promote the top performers to midlevel managers earlier than you think and give them the chance and opportunity to grow.
[19:38] – Justin shares about charity and sponsorships and why 10% of his hires are Veterans.
- His big initiative is hiring Veterans and he will launch his 4th book “Purpose after Service” that tells more about the issues that they face.
- Veterans have a high calling, a real passion of taking care of one another and being a part of something bigger but they struggle to find their purpose in the private sector.
- Hiring them will help them find their purpose and their momentum and because they have a culture aspect to who they are, they are good for internal work environment with a high success rate.
[22:23] – Justin gives his final take aways.
- There are 2 things that is gratifying to him; being able to provide for his family and watching other people succeed in his business.
- Gratification is finding success and sharing it with other people.
