3 Value Bombs
1) Focus your content and your curation within your newsletters to be read by your listeners on a very consistent basis.
2) Producing a massive amount of content is under-hyped. A lot of people are scared of producing a lot of content because they think it’ll oversaturate their listeners and get them to unsubscribe.
3) The higher the barrier, the lower the competition. When you can do something in this world, specifically in business, that’s really hard to do – that’s hard to replicate – the level of competition is going to be so much smaller.

[2:49] – John’s opinion about AI and how he uses it in his business.
- Somewhere between 10 to 15% of active content creators are actively using AI in their business.
- JLD shares an idea, “Dead Legends.” Use AI to generate responses from someone in the past, like Benjamin Franklin, and have an actual conversation with them.
[6:22] – John’s hesitations, or things that slow him down.
- The higher the barrier, the lower the competition. When you can do something in this world, specifically in business, that’s really hard to do – that’s hard to replicate – the level of competition is going to be so much smaller.
- The thing with AI is when you utilize it in a way that makes things easy to do, it’s also easy to replicate.
[11:33] – Video podcasting
- The reason why John has an audio only podcast is simply because of the production time it takes to do a daily podcast, a daily interview with entrepreneurs.
- Niche down until you get to a point where either you are the only _______, or the competition is just weak enough to where you can come in day one and dominate.
[17:26] – Fewer people are now creating and publishing podcasts. Why is that?
- During COVID podcast creation skyrocketed.
- Nobody wants a pale, weak imitation of a thing when they can have the real thing.
- The only podcasts that became successful have solved a real problem in this world better than anyone else can.
[20:43] – Books as an opportunity for creators
- When your book is published traditionally, most of the content within that book is going to be irrelevant and outdated and people know it.
- On the other hand, publishing your book over a weekend on Amazon could bring in great leads, great traction for you, great authority, and great influence. It could open up some doors.
- If you have unique insights and you’re willing to go through what sounds kind of painful to write a book, you’ll come out the other side with some incredible intellectual property that you can leverage in short form.
[26:08] – Things that are overhyped and under-hyped right now.
- Something that’s overhyped is doing what influencers and authority figures are doing.
- People are tired of seeing these pale, weak imitations of other individuals that are just parroting and repeating what everybody else is saying.
- If you really are creating and distributing the #1 solution to a real problem, people will beat a path to your doorstep.
- If you’re the second-best solution to their problem, or the 10th best solution, they’re gonna ignore you.

[32:16] – Continuation of things that are overhyped.
- People mimic tactics that successful people are doing now, and those tactics aren’t why that person is successful right now. It can be successful for them, but it probably took a different track for them to get there.
[33:36] – Under-hyped things
- Nobody has talked about AR or VR in the landscape of online education. That is a tremendous opportunity that someone’s gonna figure out and they’re gonna create the best augmented or virtual reality learning experience.
- Producing a massive amount of content is under-hyped. A lot of people are scared of producing a lot of content because they think it’ll oversaturate their listeners and get them to unsubscribe.
- Put in the reps, the effort, the work – that’s the only way you’re ever going to get good at anything.
[38:20] – John’s take on Threads.
- When you focus on doing and being the best at one thing, you become great at that thing.
- Threads doesn’t have to compete with Twitter directly for the same users.
[42:52] – What has John interested in LinkedIn?
- He started doing a contributor series, which is where LinkedIn has these long-form articles that are really well-produced, well done and very informative.
- They allow influencers and authority figures to come in and to add perspectives to these articles.
[45:19] – The Creator Economy of 2024, and what people should be paying attention to.
- Newsletters have been around for a long time. They precede almost all these platforms in some way, shape or form.
- We are in a world where newsletters are very meaningful.
- When we have sponsors on our podcast, and we couple the podcast sponsorship with a newsletter mention with a specific call-to-action, the conversions for that sponsor will rise.
- Focus your content and your curation within your newsletters to be read by your listeners on a very consistent basis.
[48:53] – Key takeaway and call to action.
