Today’s Audio MASTERCLASS: Using AI for Something Good
[1:01] – David shares something that he believes about becoming successful that most people disagree with.
- 75% of the success of each company is based on its people. Forget the technology or market strategy, its all about the people.
[2:03] – David gives a quick rundown of his journey as a Visionary Leader with over 40 years of experience in technology, including leadership at two of America’s 50 fastest-growing tech companies.
- He worked 5 years in Prime Computer which was a big winner in the super mini computers market in 1980. Then he transitioned to Novel and became the Chief Legal Officer and Executive VP for 15 years. The company grew from 150 people to over 10,000 and they were the rosckstar for network marketing for years.
- In 2000,the internet was blooming in a good and bad way and shortly he began taking the CEO position in the tech space, running the company Fusion IO. He retired for the third time and he wrote the book “Up Your Game”.
- He then became the CEO of Higher Vew and made a million dollars sales to $40M sales in 3 years and now, he is in the AD-Tech Space .

- He use his success as a spring board as opposed to a hammock. He’s got the energy and he plays hard because there’s always a lot of things to do in the world.
- Two years ago, when AI and machine learning started taking up steam, he got a second wind. He took AI and took it to work in the education space which is a passion of his. He is not retiring soon but sertainly will slow down in some point.

- He is a person that connects and build relationships. He can’t do it alone so he is always looking for amazing technologists who are game changers.

[11:32] – David gives some highlights from being Technology Innovator and being inducted into the Utah Technology Hall of Fame and honored with lifetime achievement awards for his contributions to technology.
- The big highlight is his encounter with Steve Wozniak whom he met in Sun Valley Idaho in 2008. He invited him to join Fusion IO as their chief scientist and it was truly life changing for him because he was a brilliant man and he learned a lot.
[13:24] – David tells about his best selling book “Up Your Game”.
- He focused on six fundamental lessons that he learned in Sunday school.
- The first principle is flipping the concept of networking which is to give you an opportunity to add value in people’s lives. Think of the people first is very fundamental and is a strong way to build a wonderful network.
- The second principle is follow up within the next 24-48 hours otherewise you will be forgotten.
[17:00] – David says that only 10% of the people follow up and the remaining 90% don’t. You can change your life by following up better.
