[1:23] – Amy talks about what is The Perception Paradox and how it apply to today’s world.
- The Perception Paradox is recognizing that each person is experiencing the world on a completely unique way. The paradox is the people who see the world different from you are the hardest to work with.
- You need to intionally seek out people that are very different from you and see the world differently from you and acknowledge that this people are going to be challenging to work with and will take more time to reach into a solution. That is what we call Perception Paradox.

- It is categorized as a personality assessment, the most sophisticated psychometrically valid assessment in the market place. It is rooted in science and is reliable and valid.
- The truth is, it is an assessment of perception to see how people are viewing the world, what they see about themselves , their experience with other people and what they expect from them.
- You can get a whole human assessment that is able to measure how they are most productive in the external part of their personality. It also measures the internal side of their personality that we don’t immediately see.
- By combining this external part of a person and internal personality, you get the whole view of who that person is and how they are really experiencing the world.

- Trust is fundamental because when it is there, your team and company will thrive and when it is not there, the company will not be successful.

- JLD’s exterior is extroverted but his internal needs is very introverted. He needs a lot of time alone where his creativity comes and this is counterintuitive to some people.
- He is highly social but he needs a down time for his social needs to be met. Birkman helps to identify this internal needs and honor is to stay in a productive mode. If this is not met, you will move to that stress behaviour.
- It’s the hidden part or internal personality that is the key to being happy , healthy and satisfied which is most important.

- They measure a construct decomponent called assertiveness. There are people who have high assertiveness that comes naturally to them but on the other end, there are people who are more suggestive and polite and less opinionated.
- For JLD, his score is very high which means he is comfortable of being verbal but for people with low score, it can be intimidating and uncomfortable and majority of the population feels this way.
- This is the reason for conflict in most organizations . But you have to be able to find a space to figure out where in the organization went wrong and get your point of view across to provide a place for resolution to happen.

- Emotional energy is how much you see your emotions coming out. These are excitement, passion, frustration and discouragement. How much you wear your emotions on your exterior and how much you openly express your emotions.
- JLD’s emotional energy score is also high. For him it feels like engagement and connection but for half of the population , they find it uncomfortable, overwhelming and inappropriate and it makes it challenging and mistrust the person.
