I published my first ever blog post around November of 2011.

If you want to be, do
It was actually right around the same time that I was hired by Examiner.com to be their Skiing and Lifestyle writer.
After several months of writing – both on my own blog and on Examiner.com – I grew quite frustrated.
I didn’t feel like anyone was coming to my blog, and I also felt like I was running out of things to write about when it came to skiing (it was probably about February by this time, and ski season was quickly coming to an end).
That’s when I picked up a book that changed my perspective on everything when it came to writing – on both my blog and on Examiner.com.
It was by Jeff Goins, titled You Are a Writer (So Start Acting Like One)
Huh…
That’s a novel idea.
After reading Jeff’s book, I was so fired up! The ideas he wrote about – and the perspective he opened up for me – was so simple.
How could I have possibly gone all this time thinking that just because I had spent $10 on a domain through GoDaddy, and just because Examiner.com had hired me, that that made me a writer?
If you want to be, do
When I sat down and actually looked back, I had barely published anything on my personal blog – maybe 4 or 5 posts over 3+ months – and all this time Examiner.com was emailing me weekly asking if I was doing okay… wondering if I was going to post something that week.
And it hit me.
I had been missing out on this simple perspective the entire time: I can definitely be a writer – or anything else I want to be for that matter, like an entrepreneur, a product creator, an app developer, a podcaster – but in order to be it, I have to do it.
Perspective
This perspective is what helped me become a writer. I finally realized that if I wanted to be, I had to do. And this perspective can be applied to anything.
What is it you wish you were doing that you’re not doing right now?
What are you feeling like right now that you wish you weren’t feeling like?
Sometimes I get pretty frustrated with stuff; I start feeling as though I’m never going to make progress, or like I’m stuck without a solution in sight.
With perspective, I realize that I’m only stuck until I go out and find the solution.
Don’t overcomplicate this – it’s very simple. Just start doing it.
