Starting a business from scratch can be overwhelming – even daunting at times.
Your regular old “to-do list” just went from a handful of tasks to… more like hundreds of things you want to start doing – right now!
Registering your business, getting a trademark (do you even need to do that?), building a website, creating a logo, signing up for social media profiles, creating your first product so you can monetize…
And while all of these tasks are certainly important ones, they take ALL of our focus away from the most important part: understanding the core purpose and mission behind our business, and focusing on WHO we’re going to be serving through our business (and of course, HOW).
Your Business Jump Start Guide
That’s exactly why I thought it would be helpful to put together this guide – a series of questions you can answer that will help you really understand WHY you’re even creating your business, and also, exactly who you’re going to serve through it.
Now before you X out this page, (thinking to yourself “I already know this stuff”), hear me out:
Until you understand what it is you have to offer that is unique, and exactly who you can offer it to, you’re not going to be able to leverage any of the growth or monetization tactics you’re probably spending way more time learning about.
Who cares about growth and monetization tactics if you don’t have an audience to speak to?
And even if you have the answers to ALL of the questions in this guide up in your head, having them down on paper can make a huge difference.
Building a foundation for your business
Much like The Fire Path, where I walk through every single step John and I followed to create and grow EOFire, this Business Jump Start Guide is a reference piece for you – something you can refer back to when you need a reminder on where it is you’re headed with this business of yours.
Your Business Jumpstart Guide is a series of questions (below) about your business, your audience, your marketing and your brand that are essential to building a strong foundation.
In tandem, it’s important you start recognizing the roadblocks you’re coming up against in the process, which might include you taking action in order to:
- Overcome fear
- Come up with a viable business idea
- Define your avatar
- Identify your niche
- Build relationships & network
But back to your Jump Start Guide… Here are a few of the questions and things you can ask yourself to get started right now:
Your Business
- What’s your mission statement?
- How are you different from others talking about the same things as you? (What’s your UVD [unique value distinguisher]?)
Business Goals
What is your ONE SMART goal for the next 100 Days?
Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound
Your Audience
Who is your ideal audience member (or avatar)?
Your Marketing
What does your content publishing schedule, and better yet – your content creation schedule – look like?
Do you have an opt-in offer? If no, then what will you create?
Your Brand
- What do people think when they hear your business’s name or see your logo?
- How should people feel when they hear your business’s name or see your logo?
Your Next Steps
- What will you do in the next 24 hours to get one step closer to being ready to launch your business?
- What will you do in the next week to get one step closer to your ONE SMART goal?
My challenge to you
If you’re preparing to launch your business – or even if you’ve already launched, but think you may have skipped over a few key steps in the “preparation” category – then use this outline to help you get started.
If there are spaces you’re not able to fill in right now, then give yourself a goal (time-bound) for when you will be able to fill them in.
