Frustrations abound when you’re building and growing your own business, and knowing your why is critical to help you move forward towards your version of uncommon success.
Little things… Big things… Sometimes things that don’t even matter much can trigger a downward spiral fast.
Deciding on the right tools to leverage
When we started our Elite Mastermind Tribe, Fire Nation Elite, we built our membership site in CustomerHub, which integrates with Infusionsoft, the CRM we use for Entrepreneurs On Fire.
As with most things, there were both pros and cons to using CustomerHub for our membership site.
Pros
- We didn’t have to worry about the integration with Infusionsoft. Once someone purchased a membership (via our order form, which was set up through the Infusionsoft application), they were automatically added to the CustomerHub site and a username and password were generated and sent to them.
- Ongoing support is much easier because we can view both platforms from our single sign on application within Infusionsoft.
Cons
- CustomerHub doesn’t allow for much customization. While you can change colors and add your own logo, there aren’t a whole lot of options in terms of page layout and formatting. This proved to be quite challenging when I started trying to do things like build our Profiles page with thumbnails of each member…
- CustomerHub doesn’t offer a built-in Forum option. Our choices were to pay an additional $50/month to purchase the add-on through CustomerHub (TenderApp), or find our own alternative. We decided to find our own alternative, which saved us a ton of money (we paid a one-time fee for the plugin vs. taking on a monthly, recurring fee), but it has required much more work from our end. We definitely think we made the right decision, though.
We started building our membership site over three months ago, and today we’re still working out kinks and breathing through the frustrations that come with learning a system you know nothing about.
Creating good habits
Because there is a new challenge that pops up every day with CustomerHub, I set out to identify and create a habit that would help me learn to deal with the frustrations I was having when working within CustomerHub.
While searching for a habit to create, I decided to pop into our Private Facebook Group that we run for Fire Nation Elite. I noticed a post from one of our Tribe members that was a picture of him and his son. This is what the post said:
You need to know this is my WHY! This morning I challenge you to remember your WHY. “It’s never too late to be what you might have been.”
I thought to myself, Wow, what a powerful reminder: “Remember your WHY.”
Then I thought, Wait a minute – this might be it – this might be the habit I’m searching for: remember your WHY.
So I asked myself – out loud – “Kate, what is your why?”
What’s your why?
My first reaction was to think about what my goals and dreams are, but when I said them out loud, they didn’t really explain why I do what I do every single day.
One of my goals might be to become a better writer, but that’s not why I write this blog.
One of my dreams might be to never have to second-guess a marketing campaign, but that’s not why I create marketing campaigns for Entrepreneurs On Fire.
As I was thinking about my why I kept coming back the photo this particular member had posted: him and his son. And then it hit me.
I knew exactly why I kept going back in CustomerHub and spending hours and tons of energy trying to make it better: for our community, Fire Nation Elite.
Motivation, inspiration, and support
We’ve built such an incredible community within Fire Nation Elite, and every day I turn to them just the same way they turn to me for motivation, inspiration and support.
We built this community to help the members within start and build their own businesses, and our membership site is a major part of that. If I can’t continue to make the membership site better, then I’m not helping the members within.
So, next time I’m in CustomerHub working on the membership site, and I get frustrated or feel like giving up, I’m going to remember my why, because I know it will give me the motivation I need to figure out the issue and fix it.
Don’t have a membership site or a mastermind group? That’s okay… this works for every part of your business – even your business as a whole.
Whether you’re working on a small project or building an entire business, remembering your why will help get you through the frustrating and tough times. It might be a smaller why, like my why for the membership site; or it might be a BIG why, like why you decided to start your business.
