Today’s Audio MASTERCLASS: Self-Employed? You Could Be Owed Thousands in Pandemic Tax Refunds
[1:25] – Ryan shares something that he believes about becoming successful that most people disagree with.
- Your other relationship has to suffer on your road to becoming a successful entrepreneur. A lot of entrepreneurs are so laser focused on the goal that a lot of times some of the other aspect of life are laid aside, there are other parts that make you whole and are critical for you to stay in the right place to really be the most successful entrepreneur and the kind of human you want to be.
[2:35] – Ryan tells about how he shifted from being one of the Top 40 Under 40 Lawyer in the US to become the CEO of SETC Pros.
- Being a trial lawyer was his passion and considered himself fortunate in his early career to have the opportunity to try significant cases.
- He has an entrepreneurial spirit. He opened his practice 3 years out of law school but he also started some entrepreneurial endeavors. His first one was a commercial cleaning company with some of his colleagues and had a lot of different journeys.
- When Covid started, there was a huge need for people to get wills, power of attorney, medical power of attorney with no one to get it for them because of the quarantine. They rapidly started changing notary laws to allow for documents to be signed, witnessed or notarized virtually. That became his first swing to something more national. He learned so much through that experience and gained skills. He continued with other entrepreneurial ventures and enjoyed building business especially if the service is making an impact to people’s lives.
- When this opportunity came to him, there was a problem that need to be solved. 40-80 million Americans who are self-employed are eligible for billions of dollars and they have no idea about it.
- It’s a concern because coming April 2025, the ability for the individuals to claim all the credits will be gone forever. If you file your taxes late, then it will be missed.
- There is a sense of urgency to create something from a quality and trust worthiness place that they can get the word out to the masses and help them get to the process as easily as possible to claim the funds that they can be owed from pandemic refunds.
[7:51] – Ryan talks about Sick Leave and Family Leave Tax Credits.
- Its not a new concept but there is no educational component. This specific tax credits originated with the FFCRA. In the beginning, they were created for the employers to pay their employees and then later on it was expanded to include the self-employed in America.
- Sick leave credits are for Covid related mandated shutdown for a period of time.
- Family leave credits are focused of parents, caretakers and other folks who are self-employed but school, daycare and neighbourhood baby sitters are shutdown.
- The total maximum benefit is $32,220 for sick leave and family leave credits.
[10:47] – Ryan tells why these credits matter and what kind of financial impact can these credits have on self-employed individuals.
- There is a wide range of self-employed.
- He issued a refund of $19,000 to a construction professional and when he delivered the message to him , he felt so helpful.
- Tax refunds are not taxable and 16% on top of it is paid by the IRS.

[15:27] – Ryan break down the mission of SETC Pros: Simplify the process of claiming these credits.
- The mission is simple, give many self-employed money as much as possible and the key component of doing that is education and getting the word out to people to people so they can understand that this is real because a lot of self-employed people don’t know about tax credits.
- Education is the first part. The second is they want to make the most secure and efficient process for peopleto get the documents they need to claim this credit.
- They have an awesome team of developers and a corporate partnership that allows them to put all the data needed for their customers directly from the IRS.
- There is a two-step verification process that allows to pull the records from the IRS and receive it in 5-7 business days. They don’t store any sensitive data and the best part is customers don’t need to pay anything until they receive their refund from the IRS.
- It cost nothing to apply , verify payment for later and if they receive the refund from the IRS , they debit their fee within 5 business days. If they receive more that they are quoted , they will not be charged additional and when they receive less than their quote , the fees will be adjusted down.
[19:37] – Ryan talks about the process if someone wanted to get started.
- They created a special link just for Fire Nation – SETC Pros and it will take just about 15 minutes to submit the necessary information.
[20:59] – Ryan tells about the deadline and final takeaway.
- There is a special 15% discount created for Fire Nation by using the coupon code eof.
- The deadline to have the forms to the IRS is April 15, 2025 but it will take 8-20 weeks to process so it is highly encourage to start the process as soon as possible.
