Today’s Audio MASTERCLASS: Hosting Events & Building Real Community
[1:14] – Hollis shares something that he believes about becoming successful that most people disagree with.
- Success is different from every individual and climbing the success ladder of other people, especially in business, is not the path.
- Being in a community of people you are valuable is the most powerful way to achieve success.
[3:47] – Hollis tells about the evolution of hosting events ang his lessons learned.
- Being in the business for 10 years he learned that nothing goes according to plan.
- The experience is going to be dictated on how good you are in going with the flow.
[4:56] – Hollis talks about the Easter eggs.
- How to attend and get the most value out of each event is the easter egg that you need to look for.
- Its meeting new people , going with the flow and getting the most out of it because you can’t recreate the “magic” that comes with it.
[8:48] – Hollis tells more about building a community as a business.
- He attended courses to learn but it was the time he spent with an organic community that catapulted his business and fueled him to pursue his desires.
- He gave a disclaimer that starting a community business is not for the faint of heart because people have different needs and stages along the way that you have no control.
- At the end of the day, what you are selling is trust and being part of a community business is about supporting and challenging one another.
- Building deep relationships and having respect in each other is invaluable.
[11:43] – Hollis shares about the key thing he learned.
- He mentioned the quote from Adam Grant “Less about feeling right and more about being right”.
- You are not there to be taught but to build with them. To have a relationship of support, challenge and trust.

[16:49] – Hollis talks about the battle between happiness and success.
- Success has metrics and happiness is complex. People’s happiness evolve in time.
- Happiness has a gauge but it only comes down to freedom (freedom to or freedom from) used as a filter to people depending on their level of responsibility and time availability as they navigate in the stages of life.
[18:48] – Hollis shares about the major patterns versus trends in the community.
- He spent 3 years in the group gathering lessons about their new stages in life that creates stress and at the same time creates happiness.
- Happiness should be agile as you go through it and money is not the main driver to get it.
- Acknowledge the stages of life and see when you need to sprint or when you need to take a break with family and friends.
- Your version of happiness is very different from other people. Take time to analyze that and figure out for yourself.
[23:46] – Hollis gives his final take away.
- His business model is not to teach how to get rich because there’s a a lot of variables to that. He spends time on creating relevance and building value to a group helping and supporting one another and enjoying what you are doing.
