He grew up in rural Oregon, and he was penniless. He had no exposure to wealthy or successful people. He used to think that rich individuals were not very nice.
- This is a common belief for many people. Coming from this background, you may not realize that achieving success involves generosity and creating significant value for others.
It is not about getting things for yourself; it is about understanding the challenges, desires, and needs of others.

[5:10] – What are some critical keys to success when running a business in an online environment?

In this new world of remote work, productivity can be challenging. You must control your time, attention, and establish effective routines and boundaries to succeed.
Continuous learning. The internet provides access to vast knowledge, and now, with generative AI, you can learn even faster. Dedicate time every day to learning and self-improvement.
Success is linked to the number of well-thought-out experiments you conduct.

[7:55] – Why did you become a coach after being an entrepreneur and investor?

Eben is a coach, and sometimes people have misconceptions about coaching. For him, coaching has been a consistent passion in his life. He started learning about coaching from great mentors like Tony Robbins and Thomas Leonard.
- As he applied what he learned in various aspects of his life, including his business and teaching, he realized that coaching was something he truly enjoyed and found fulfilling.
- Around six or seven years ago, he started teaching others to become coaches.

[13:14] – Eben defines what a coach is and how coaching should work.

Many people misunderstand what coaching is. They think it is about a coach telling clients what to do, which can lead to problems and insecurity for the coach. However, actual coaching involves the coach asking the client what they think they should do. Clients often know the right course of action, but may struggle to follow through.
The coach’s role is to facilitate and support the client in taking action.
Coaching is about supporting individuals through transitions or changes in their lives.

[17:51] – How much do coaches make?

Around a decade ago, the International Coach Federation (ICF) conducted a study involving life coaches in their network. The study revealed that, on average, life coaches were earning $214 per coaching session.
This discovery had a significant impact on the coaching industry.
Subsequently, a Harvard Business Review article provided more insight. It showed that executive coaches specializing in high-end business coaching earned an average of $200 to $500 per hour, with a median rate of $500 per hour.
