Christopher J. Wirth: I am beyond prepared and ready to –
John Lee Dumas: Yes.
Christopher J. Wirth: – get en fuego.
John Lee Dumas: CJW is the Founder of No Quit Living, a speaking, training, and coaching business. And he’s a host of the No Quit Living Podcast, which featured me, JLD, back on Episode No. 5, or as they would say in Puerto Rico, cinco. Christopher take a minute, fill in some gaps from that intro, and give us a little glimpse of your personal life.
Christopher J. Wirth: First off, I am the extremely lucky husband of my amazing and beautiful wife, Melissa. She happens to be my rock, my partner, as well as my best friend. Together we are the proud parents of three little troublemakers: Zachary, Emily, and Mason. And in No Quit Living, as you mentioned, we help motivate and inspire individuals, companies, and teams to be more accountable and as a result, achieve their goals more efficiently and effectively. And that is me in 30 seconds or less.
John Lee Dumas: CJW what would you consider your area of expertise? What are you exceptional at? What is that area?
Christopher J. Wirth: Our area of expertise is definitely accountability. We help people, companies, and teams identify and understand the importance of first self-accountability. And I’ve found that before you can be accountable to someone else or to your team or your company; you need to fully understand that everything rises and falls with self-accountability.
And we also focus and help our clients identify the one degree to their greatness or the one degree of separation. Everyone is familiar with the philosophy of six degrees of separation. We have found that a lot of times people are just one degree away from their greatness. And many times it’s that simple one degree adjustment that can make all the difference.
And the issues that we find that a lot of people or companies they don’t see immediate results, and, unfortunately, they tend to quit way too early. So, we help those people identify their very specific needed adjustments so people don’t give us on themselves or their goals.
John Lee Dumas: What don’t we know – and by we I mean me, entrepreneurs in general, Fire Nation – about accountability, your area of expertise that we should? Just in a couple sentences Chris what’s something that we should know that we probably don’t?
Christopher J. Wirth: It’s interesting, but I’ve found that most people initially when it comes to accountability you need to put things down on paper. And you need to really identify what it is that you’re gonna hold yourself accountable, whether you’re on a team, whether you’re part of a company, or it could be something simple as being part of your family is.
Until you really look in the mirror, and you say I’m gonna be accountable to myself and then identify and put on paper the two, three, or four different areas, a lot of times people don’t realize that accountability’s so simple. But we feel that most people completely overlook it. And as I said before, if you’re not self-accountable, there’s no way you’re gonna be accountable and successful to somebody else or to a company or organization.
John Lee Dumas: Chris I want to kinda go back in your journey right now. I want to talk about a time that you struggled. And not just any struggle, but what you consider your entrepreneurial moment. Your biggest struggle to date in that business realm. So, don’t pull any punches. Take us to that moment. Tell us that story.
Christopher J. Wirth: It’s a tough story for me because it’s both personal and business. But a couple months ago in regards to, I was so focused on launching my new company, our website, the podcast, and some of our projects and products. Money and bills happened to be tight, and it was during this time that I had a very difficult conversation with my wife.
She was very candid with me. And even though it was tough to hear what she said, she was spot on. I had put her and part of our relationship on autopilot, and I was so super focused on my business that I allowed my priorities to get a little bit out of whack. And as a result of our conversation, JLD, I had to write the ship and first become accountable for my actions and refocus my priorities.
It was during that time that I was able to refocus, and as a result, both my business and personal life took off. And it’s at a completely new level. But I have to say that if it wasn’t for those tough conversations with my wife, I don’t think there’d be a chance that we’d be speaking together JLD.
John Lee Dumas: Well, let’s talk about that. What was one of those conversations like? Kinda take us to that couch when you’re sitting down speaking to each other. How did she bring it up? What conversation came out of it? What did you find helpful in that conversation?
Christopher J. Wirth: That’s a great question. I don’t know if I would say it was helpful because it was such a tough conversation. But I think anybody that’s successful whether it’s entrepreneur or sports or life has had to overcome something. And for me, it was during those conversations. And I say conversations plural where we really laid it out. And as I mentioned, her candor really hit me home. But the reason it hit me so hard is because she was spot on. I was so focused on our business –
John Lee Dumas: Let me break in here for a second. What was she saying? What was a couple of things she was saying to you that were like ouch. That hurts.
Christopher J. Wirth: She was identifying the fact that because I was stressed about bills and money and launching it that I’d allowed myself to put certain areas of our relationship on autopilot. And by that I mean there was never a moment when I wasn’t there physically for her or for my kids. But, as we all know, there’s a very significant difference of physically –
[Crosstalk]
Christopher J. Wirth: – being there versus physically and emotionally being there. And I gotta say man, JLD, it was during those conversations that I realized that physically I was there. But emotionally I was somewhere else. And I think not to go back to it, but the reality was because I was somewhere else, it wasn’t that I was not trying to include her, or I wasn’t trying to keep her involved.
It was just that because I was stressed and busy and the money and the bills and things I guess part of me thought that if I didn’t fully go into it with her that she wouldn’t be stressed out. But I realize that once you hide things and keep things to yourself, eventually it comes to a boil.
John Lee Dumas: Yeah, so true. I can say like one thing that I definitely recommend and I try to do myself at night when Kate and I have kinda wrapped up for the day. And now, we’re moving into the dinner and relaxation phase of the evening. Get that phone, put it on airplane mode because you don’t even want to think of like is it gonna beep? Am I gonna look at it for the time? There’s gonna be like one of those little notifications that something came in. Put it on airplane mode. Keep it in another room. There’s just no reason. Like, put into airplane mode.
If you want to do a quick check of things right before you go to bed, I’m gonna say big mistake because you’re gonna get your mind going. And you’re gonna have a hard time falling to sleep. But if you want to, go for it. Maybe you have some VAs that work overseas and they’re working at that time. So you want to make sure that they have everything they need to know.
I get it. I know all the things. I have people all over the world. But just get it on airplane mode. So, that’s my big tip. Chris give us another one that you found helpful during this time.
Christopher J. Wirth: It’s funny you mentioned that because I was just about to say the same thing is there are times to prioritize, and there are times to take business and things and just completely turn it off. So, whether it’s, as you mentioned, putting something on airplane mode or just saying look for the next hour, hour and a half, we’re gonna have our time.
And that to me was something that was so simple is just focus on yourself. So, for my wife, Melissa, and I, it was just doing something together alone. And it wasn’t worry about the phone or the email or text messages. Whether it was watching a movie or going out to dinner, and to your point, to me it was not only just putting it on autopilot.
But a lot of times for me like when we went to dinner and things, it was just leaving the phone in the car, or leaving the phone somewhere else so I wasn’t distracted to actually pick it up or think about it. And it’s tough because when you do it for such a long time, and it’s always there by you, and it’s – I think you mention all the time on your show is shiny object syndrome is our phones, our iPads, our laptops, they’re always blinking. They’re always beeping. And –
John Lee Dumas: Always.
Christopher J. Wirth: – you need to turn them off or put them somewhere else. And for me, I have a very shiny object syndrome tenacity in the sense that I always have my phone near me. So, for me it was just actually putting it in a different room and not worrying about it.
John Lee Dumas: Yeah, there have been studies that have come out that have said even having your phone on the table, even if it’s in airplane mode, just having it there decreases the quality of that conversation because you have this little tug at your subconscious and even your conscious for some people of like oh, what is – let me just. It’s like a drug. Let me just check it real quick.
And even though you know it’s off, it still distracts. So, get it out of the room. Separate business and life Fire Nation. So, Chris you’ve had a lot of great ideas over the years. Some of them have worked out. Some of them haven’t. But you’ve had some of these ah-ha moments. Take us to one of the greatest ideas you’ve had to date. Tell us that story.
Christopher J. Wirth: It’s a tough question. I guess my greatest ah-ha moment kinda came to me when I was a big fan of podcasts, not only yours but many others. And so many people told me that with my network and my market that I should create my own No Quit Living Podcast. And I guess I don’t know if I was scared or if it was fear, but finally one day I just looked in the mirror.
And I said, “Why not now?” I said, “Nobody’s gonna come to me and say here’s your podcast. Here’s everything laid out.” And I realized there are so many great resources such as your podcast program as well as others. And I decided to put pen and paper to it, and I identified my first 25 to 30 guests what I would like to talk about on the podcast.
But it was really during that time when I looked in the mirror and I said if I don’t do it now, it’s probably never gonna happen. And I’ve been extremely fortunate to have some amazing guests. As you mentioned, self-promotion plug for you, Episode No. 5 –
John Lee Dumas: Woot woot!
Christopher J. Wirth: – features JLD. And I’ve had some great people, and we’ve been ranked in the Top 50 Business Category on iTunes. And I have to say that I’ve had some amazing people that have been in my corner, but really if it wasn’t for the fact that I just finally looked in the mirror and said you know what? Now is the time. And I gotta be honest man. I was scared. But I went all in, and knock on wood. It’s been a great experience. And I’ve been enjoying every moment of it.
John Lee Dumas: So, a couple things Fire Nation. No. 1.) If you’re not a little bit scared then that should be an indicator that you probably shouldn’t do it because you want to be getting outside of your comfort zone. You want to be pushing the envelope. All the magic happens outside of where you’re comfortable. So, if you’re comfortable doing something, that’s a recipe for mediocrity if you’re gonna continue down that road.
If there’s a couple days that go by that I’m not scared of doing something – like for me right now, I’m a little freaked out about Facebook Messenger Bots, but I’m doing all the things. I’m trying to learn that because I want to know more. It’s out of my comfort zone, and I don’t really know what’s going on with those little bot dudes.
But I’m trying to figure them out, and it’s a little scary. But guess what? It’s pushing me out of the comfort zone. That’s where the magic happens. So, if you’re not a little bit scared or a lot scared about doing something, that’s an indicator that you’re not setting your sights high enough.
No. 2.) Why not you, and why not now? Seriously. Look in the mirror and ask yourself how much longer am I gonna delay that thing because of these stupid, little, insignificant, made-up ideas I’m putting in my own head? So why not you? Why not now? Chris –
Christopher J. Wirth: Yeah.
John Lee Dumas: – what’s the one thing today that you’re most fired up about?
Christopher J. Wirth: Tough question to answer one thing. So, I need to take a little bit of creativity and say there are two things that I’m fired up about. Obviously, the first one is our No Quit Living Podcast, and the second thing is we just relaunched our website.
And I’m so fired up about those two because we are looking to have the biggest positive impact on as many people as we can. And we feel that through our website as well as our podcast, we’re able to reach so many people in a free way but more importantly so many people in a positively impactful way.
John Lee Dumas: So, what was your goal when you redesigned the No Quit Living Podcast? Like, I’m on there right now. I’m kinda going through the design of it right now. So, like, when you went through the redesign, what was the goal that you wanted as a finished product?
Christopher J. Wirth: Two things. The first was the visual goal of just having it have a little bit more clean look in regards to the podcast and having a little bit more of a, I guess, eye-catchy look. And then the second component to the website relaunch was just to make it look and feel a little bit newer, quicker.
And as I mentioned before, the shiny object syndrome is a lot of people will only click through something for a couple seconds. And if it doesn’t catch their eye, unfortunately, a lot of people don’t click through. And they might miss out on some good stuff. So, that was one of the two things we wanted to obtain –
John Lee Dumas: Got it.
Christopher J. Wirth: – was the fact that we wanted people to actually keep their attention. And the other thing is, obviously, having those big guests is another huge opportunity as well.
John Lee Dumas: Totally. So, No. 1 what I love about your website – and Fire Nation you want to check out what I’m talking about. It’s noquitliving.com. You get there, and the whole top of the fold, so what you see when you first get there, it’s just not busy. There’s just not a lot of stuff going on, which is good. We don’t want that overwhelming when we first get to a site.
It makes us want to get out of there because we’re just like oh my God. It’s so busy. All these sidebars and flashings and this and that. So, there’s just the No Quit Living Positivity, Persistence, Prosperity. So, I get it there. And then you scroll down, and it just says welcome. And it gives a little welcome. And then below that, there’s essentially just four kind of these what I would call CTAs, calls to action.
So, No. 1.) What do we do? The podcast. And then there’s a subscribe button. No. 2.) Coaching. Contact us. No. 3.) Training. Contact us. No. 4.) Speaking. Contact us. And it’s kind of in the order what I’m guessing of really what Chris wants people to take action on. He wants them to No. 1,) Subscribe. No. 2.) I’m sure he’d love to coach people. No. 3.) He probably would love to train people. No. 4.) There’s gonna be a lot less opportunities because there’s just not a lot of opportunities to speak on stage. But there’s speaking opportunities for people who want to bring him to their events, to their summit, whatever that might be. And he makes it super simple. One thing I do think he’s missing – I don’t know if you have this in the plans Chris or you don’t have it for a specific reason, all of which is good, is fine.
But I do believe that you should either be building an email list more actively on this, or what I’ve been doing recently if people go to eofire.com, you’ll see that I’m actually building my Facebook Messenger subscribe list. And again, this is kind of the next cutting edge thing, the Facebook Messenger Bots. So, it’s interesting, and you’ll see what I do at eofire.com.
But I think right below the No Quit Living on the top of the fold there should be a great lead magnet for an avatar on Chris’s site. Someone that he wants there would definitely want. Like, the top ten reasons why you shouldn’t quit, or the top five reasons why people quit and how you can avoid it. Something like that that’s gonna be building either that messenger subscriber list on Facebook or the email subscriber list.
That would just be my quick recommendation, and Fire Nation that’s something that always be looking at your site and having other people look at your site to say hey, how could I make this a better flow? How could I make this more clear, more simple to have the direct calls to action and actions that are taking place on my site that I want to take?
And we recently did a big redesign at eofire as well, so I’ve just gone through this. So, it’s pretty fresh in my mind. And by the way, I would love your feedback Fire Nation on what you think our site does because we’re always looking to improve.
Christopher J. Wirth: Point well taken Sir. Point well taken. I appreciate that, and one of the things we take about especially when I do some of the speaking is the action of ABL, always be learning. And I just took down some notes, and I am going to speak with my web design and developer the minute we get off of this call. So, thank you for sharing that with us.
John Lee Dumas: Now, Fire Nation, there’s an action taker. There’s somebody who can take constructive criticism and then improve his business because I’ve been there and done that. And I’ve learned some things, but I also have tons of things to learn in the future. And I learn from others too, and that’s the world that we live in. It’s like this comingling of information, and if you think that Chris has been dropping value bombs so far, you just wait for the lightning round, which we’ll get to after we thank our sponsors. Chris are you ready to rock the lightning round?
Christopher J. Wirth: I am beyond ready Sir.
John Lee Dumas: What was holding you back from becoming an entrepreneur?
Christopher J. Wirth: I think the fear of failure and the fear of uncertainty. JLD I think any entrepreneur experiences both of these fears to an extent whenever they launch or start something new. But other than that, I was ready to go. And once I go through those two fears, I was ready to rock.
John Lee Dumas: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Christopher J. Wirth: The best advice I ever received was very simple. It was to identify what I really wanted in life. And then I was told the importance of putting it down on paper. And then the last piece of that was just never giving up until I actually accomplished it. Pretty simple and basic, but it’s had a profound impact throughout my life both personally as well as professionally and in my background and coaching and playing basketball as well.
John Lee Dumas: What’s a personal habit that contributes to your success?
Christopher J. Wirth: I’m an extremely early riser, and I get to the gym every morning by 4:00 a.m. This helps me focus and start my day off with an accomplishment that puts me, I think, in the right mindset to attack the rest of my day. And I accompany that with I have a personal two-page daily accountability form.
And – no plug here – but I also have been using a mastery journal for a while now. And I think it’s awesome as far as focusing on what I need to do. And then I also have a personal accountability partner, that I meet myself in person every single week.
John Lee Dumas: Plug away my friend. The masteryjournal.com, and Fire Nation, as a little thank you for listening to this podcast, I always have this promo code available for you, podcast, when you want to go to the Mastery Journal or the freedomjournal.com for a nice little discount. It’s just a thank you for listening. And Chris if you could just recommend one resource, what would it be and why?
Christopher J. Wirth: I have two resources actually. It’s Infusion Soft and Mail Chimp. I’m sure many of your listeners are very well aware of these, but I’ve been using them for the last few months now. And they’ve had a positive impact on me in regards to helping grow and maintaining successful client and prospect base.
John Lee Dumas: If you could recommend one book, what would it be and why?
Christopher J. Wirth: I’m a big reader, and for me it was The TenX Rule by Grant Cardone. I know he was a guest on your show in the past, but this book just had a very significant positive impact on me. Grant writes about the fact that every project he has worked on ended up taking ten times the energy, money, and activity to accomplishment – accomplish it, excuse me.
And he also touched on most people as soon as they encounter adversity or pushback; they typically lower their goals or expectations. But he then talks about the importance that you need to increase your activity –
John Lee Dumas: Yeah.
Christopher J. Wirth: – ten times. And for me, it’s such a simple idea, but if you think about it and then you apply it to your life, you’re gonna be successful in whatever area you’re in.
John Lee Dumas: That book always fires me up, and I actually highly recommend the audio version of that because Grant. And he’s just such an energized guy that I love hearing his voice. And Chris let’s end today on Fire with you giving us a parting piece of guidance, the best way that we can connect with you, and then we’ll say bye-bye.
Christopher J. Wirth: Awesome JLD. My parting piece of guidance is very simple, and then I have two free gifts actually for your listeners. I want to emphasize the importance of never quitting on yourself or your goals because that is really the foundation of what we talk about at No Quit Living. Life is challenging, and at times, we’re all gonna get knocked down. That is a give in.
But the question during those tough times is who is gonna get up and keep going for their greatness? That to me is the motto of who and what and where and how and what we preach at No Quit Living. And then the best way to connect with me is our website which is, as you mentioned, noquitliving.com. And you can follow me on Twitter or Facebook @noquitliving. And then JLD your listeners can go to noquitliving.com/eofire. We have a couple of downloads for them to share, and then people can also email me directly at chris@noquitliving.com. And for the first 25 people that respond, we will provide a 25 minute free coaching consultation with 100 percent no strings attached.
John Lee Dumas: Wow! And that URL one more time Chris.
Christopher J. Wirth: It’s noquitliving.com/eofire.
John Lee Dumas: Boom! Fire Nation, you’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with. And hello. You’ve been hanging out with CJW and JLD today, so keep up the heat, and head over to eofire.com. If you type Christopher in our search bar, his show and his page is gonna pop up with everything that we’ve been talking about today. These are the best show notes in the biz: timestamps, links galore. And, of course, head over to noquitliving.com/eofire. And Chris one more time, what are they getting over there?
Christopher J. Wirth: They are getting a couple of free downloads. They can click on the website there. as well as the first 25 people that email me personally at chris@noquitliving.com, I’ll provide a 25 minute free coaching session with 100 percent no strings attached.
John Lee Dumas: Chris@noquitliving.com. Fire Nation, be one of those 25. Make it a goal that you’re actually gonna take action. Be one of those 25, have a free conversation with Chris, and who knows where it goes. It could lead to greatness. It could lead to nothing, but guess what. You’ve taken action. And Chris thank you for sharing your journey with Fire Nation today. For that we salute you, and we’ll catch you on the flipside.
Christopher J. Wirth: Thank you Sir.
