Transcript
Leanne Jacobs: Absolutely.
Interviewer: Yes. Leanne is an advocate and pioneer in the space of holistic wealth. She is the author of the recently released book, Beautiful Money, and passionately mentors on the new wealth, which she calls Beautiful Money. She's also a certified clinical nutritionist, yoga and Pilates instructor, and international speaker.
Leanne, take a minute, fill in some gaps from that intro, and give us just a little glimpse of your personal life.
Leanne Jacobs: Oh, my goodness. Well, I've recently become a mom over the last couple years, so I have four kids. I just moved to the country. I have a musician husband. And we have really kind of raised up our vision over the last couple years, and we're really out there to really impact globally more and more people pursuing a life that they absolutely love and that they feel like they're contributing. So we're doing it as a family, but we also individually are unleashing our creativity in the world.
Interviewer: So, within that broad vision that you have, what's your area of expertise? What do you consider yourself as a specialist in?
Leanne Jacobs: Creating holistic wealth, not chasing money, really creating aligned and joyful and healthy finances and really being connected with what I call holistic abundance.
Interviewer: What do we probably not know about holistic wealth that, as entrepreneurs, we should know?
Leanne Jacobs: I think we know this, but we don't practice this, and sometimes we have to catch our self that we're living too small, and we're spending too much time on trivia and too much time treating fear.
Interviewer: What's something we don't know?
Leanne Jacobs: That there's so much money out there just waiting for you to let go.
Interviewer: Let go, Fire Nation. Leanne, let's talk about one of your stories. Let's talk about your worst entrepreneurial moment to date. So take us back to that moment. Tell us that story.
Leanne Jacobs: I had a moment in time where I was again pursuing a book deal, and it's been a five-year process for me. But in the beginning, I was over-forcing. I was trying too hard in every area of this book, from putting the team together to being obsessed, being too attached. And everything completely failed in my first attempt. And without going into too much detail, it was truly a hot mess, and it got to the point where the book was not gonna happen. There was no chance of the book happening.
And I had a day, a moment where everything came crumbling. And on that day, I actually took my vision board down. I decided, you know what? I'm just gonna be a stay-at-home mom and make jam, and it's just not meant to be.
So I had a moment where I gave up, which is not my personality. But the external world really, like Caroline May said, crushed me into fine wine that day, and I had a moment where I gave up on my entrepreneurial vision.
Interviewer: Wow. You had a moment where you gave up. You were crushed like fine wine. So what within that moment changed, or what within the following days, weeks, and months changed that allowed you to kind of pick yourself up off of that floor and start again? What was that first turning moment?
Leanne Jacobs: And again, I'm not somebody who lives in my victim, but we all have sort of, I guess, a threshold where we can all fall into our victim.
One of the gifts that I have is surrounding myself with amazing people, including my husband. So he was really the person who – he went and got it, like, physically went and got it and hung it back up, and he kicked my butt.
And I think that that's one of the gifts of having people that believe in you unconditionally. They have no agenda. They just know what your gifts are and what your genius is, so he put it back up.
And I was living in my victim for, I would say, probably a couple days. But without him, I mean, who knows what would have happened? But he was the one that really kicked my butt, kicked me out of my victim, and gave me the energy to figure out a solution.
Interviewer: Fire Nation, you are the average of the five people that you spend the most time with. You know that I focus on this because it's so true.
And if you don't have that person in your life who would do just that, who would go get your vision board out of the trash, hang it back up and say, "I'm not letting you forget your vision. I'm not letting you forget the message, the mission, the voice that you have to share with the world," you’ve got to find that person.
But ask yourself first, are you that to some other person because it has to be a two-way street. You have to be there for them just like they will be there for you. Find those people; surround yourself with them.
And let's be honest. Sometimes, there's gonna be a couple of people that are in our Top 5 right now that shouldn't be there. And don't just ignore them and completely black them off your list, but spend less time with them. You need to realize what you need to accomplish in this world, and if they're not feeding that, if they're taking away, things have to change.
Now, Leanne, shifting to another story, you've had a lot of great aha moments before then, since then. What's one of your greatest? Take us to one of those moments that you really had that amazing idea, and walk us through that story.
Leanne Jacobs: Yeah, so actually it's not – it's fairly recent, in the past year. I realized a belief system that I had that kept me compromising in my personal life and in my business life. I would always compromise. Like, I maybe had a huge vision, but then I would be, like, but I'd take a little bit less.
And that was a pattern that I recognized. It was like instantly I realized, wow, I'm always compromising. What is behind that? And I realized that it was a little bit of a belief that I wasn't good enough, so maybe take whatever you can get. But it was at a much deeper level that I realized that was, even no matter how much success I had, it was always following me.
And my husband, we realized we both had that, which is funny that like attracts like, right? You attract who you are. So we had this relationship where we're both like this. So we decided to test that theory and say, you know what? Enough with the compromising, enough. We are going huge.
So we became homeless with four kids. We sold everything. This was over the last year. We made complete space. And we said anything that we fill back into our reality cannot be in any way a compromise. So that was like a vow we not only made to ourselves, but as individuals − he's a musician – we made to ourselves as well.
So we kept the space, and then we were extremely mindful of what we committed to and what we brought into our reality, from our home to our cars to business deals to relationships. It's like no more compromise. And that became our new philosophy of life.
Interviewer: Fire Nation, you have the choice to go small or to go big. And so why would you go small when you have that option? I mean, why not go big? Why not shoot for the stars? And the corny quote, you know, "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land amongst the stars," I mean, that is true. Go big.
Now, specifically, Leanne, what was one thing that happened when you went big that you're, like, "Oh, my God, this is crazy. I never even would have thought to have asked for this or to have done this because it's so big. But when I did, look what happened"? What's one of those scenarios?
Leanne Jacobs: So, within I would say a week, we were randomly driving the neighborhood and found the exact home that we had dreamed about. It was for sale. It has just gotten for sale. We purchased it that day. And it's like we're not moving ever again probably. So that's just one tiny example. There were many others.
But when you create space and you make a commitment with clarity, then there's no resistance. So much more can – your life can flow with so much more ease and much more in alignment.
Interviewer: What's one clear lesson that you learned from this experience? What's something that you wanna make sure our listeners, Fire Nation, gets from your aha moment?
Leanne Jacobs: That you are absolutely great enough, and I would also say that you deserve the best, no compromise. If you are clear on something you desire and it's emotionally charged, trust that it's on its way. Don't just say yes to whatever shows up. Trust that you might get tested, you might have to say no to some things, but that it's on its way.
Interviewer: Let's fast-forward to today because you have a lot of things going on right now. It's 2017. What is the one thing that you are most fired up about right now?
Leanne Jacobs: I'm most fired up about taking my Beautiful Money movement global, and I made a deep commitment to taking this movement global and to really helping thousands of people around the world stop settling for small, and also start living a life and a business that's in truth and completely aligned with who they are and not trying to be something they're not, and also not doing things out of always obligation. If it doesn't feel right and it's not you, then stop faking it.
Interviewer: How'd you come up with the name, Beautiful Money? What's the story behind that?
Leanne Jacobs: I was asked to come up with three potential titles, and honestly, it just flowed out of my body. There was no thinking attached. It was just like a creative download.
Interviewer: What were the other two?
Leanne Jacobs: Gosh, honestly I don't even remember the other two. That was the one that as soon as it typed, I was, like, that's it.
Interviewer: Beautiful Money. Well, Fire Nation, we are going to have a beautiful lightning round as soon as we thank our sponsors. Leanne, are you prepared for the lightning round?
Leanne Jacobs: I don't know. I hope so.
Interviewer: What was holding you back from becoming an entrepreneur?
Leanne Jacobs: Trying to fit in and low creativity and trying to live out of just responsibility. I just didn't even think that it was a possibility
Interviewer: What is the best advice you've ever received?
Leanne Jacobs: To create as much content and aligned content as you can. That was from Gary Vaynerchuk.
Interviewer: What's a personal habit that contributes to your success?
Leanne Jacobs: I would say I'm a master at filtering top priorities for my day. So, if 20 opportunities come by, I can point out the one thing really quickly, very fast in my mind.
Interviewer: Can you share an internet resource like an Evernote with Fire Nation?
Leanne Jacobs: I would say for me it's Medium.
Interviewer: How do you use Medium?
Leanne Jacobs: It allowed me to kind of break into the content world, and I used that really for tribe building to connect with people that I don't currently know and also to be connecting with influencers to potentially collaborate with.
Interviewer: If you'd recommend just one book, Leanne, to join Beautiful Money on our bookshelves, what would that book be and why?
Leanne Jacobs: The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks. For me, it's my reminder. It's sort of my book that I read regularly when you may be subconsciously capping yourself out.
Interviewer: Yeah, Gay's a great guy. I had him on the show. And, Fire Nation, if you haven't read The Big Leap, that's a great book for 2017.
And, Leanne, this is the last question of the lightning round, but it is a doozy. Imagine you woke up tomorrow morning in a brand-new world, identical to earth, but you knew no one. You still have all the experience and knowledge you currently have, your food and shelter taken care of. But all you have is a laptop and $500.00. What would you do in the next seven days?
Leanne Jacobs: My husband said I would go try to find him. But honestly, I would create community. I mean, all of the little things that I spent so many years wasting my time on, I would cut all that out, and I would just get down to what's important, which is connection and community.
So I would probably create some type of a community, well-being, spiritual, yoga type of center, and I would start building a community that's totally build on the foundation of authenticity, well-being, and obviously collaboration.
Interviewer: Leanne, let's end today on Fire with you giving us a parting piece of guidance, the best way that we can connect with you, and then we'll say goodbye.
Leanne Jacobs: I would say to make your every single day of your life out of a place of truth for you, no compromise. And I have put together a fabulous bonus audio Beautiful Money program on BeautifulMoney.com/Fire.
Interviewer: BeautifulMoney.com/Fire, what are we gonna find there?
Leanne Jacobs: You're gonna find the Beautiful Money live program that I have only shared with people that were actually at my life book launch. So it's an amazing about 90 minutes of content and fabulous advice from some of the leading authors and experts out there.
Interviewer: Fire Nation, you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. You've been hanging out with LJ and JLD today.
