Being unique in the online business space is one of the easiest – and toughest – things you’ll ever do. It’s also integral that you, and whatever it is you’re creating, own this attribute.
Being unique
How can that be?
I’ve thought about this long and hard. I even spent a good amount of time looking into the actual definition of unique, because while I do believe it’s one of the easiest – and toughest – things you’ll ever do in the online business space, I was having trouble explaining to myself how that can be true.
All things created equal
The easiest and the toughest?
At its core, unique means “being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else“.
The easiest, because as humans, we’re all unique in many ways naturally speaking: our genetic makeup, our skin, our vocal rhythms.
The toughest, because when you take a step back, as humans, we’re all similar in many ways as well, which is why we tend to create things based on what already exists.
But all things created equal, why is it that some people stand out from the rest as unique, while the rest of us have trouble carving out that space for ourselves and for what we’re creating? We literally have trouble being unique.
It’s because we mimic others, and sometimes, we mimic so closely that we blend in instead of stand out.
But the reason we all continue to strive for uniqueness, is because we know that in life – and in the online business space specifically – being unique gives us an edge. It helps us stand out, above the noise instead of amongst it.
It helps us gain more traction, momentum, and exposure for ourselves and for what we’re creating.
Teaching uniqueness
I wish I could teach others how to be unique; I wish I had the steps you could take in order to stand out – aside from saying, “do it differently than everyone else.”
But perhaps the importance of being unique in the online business space is equal to the level of difficulty of actually achieving it. Perhaps it’s the easiest – and the toughest – to help it maintain the status of being unlike anything else.
If there’s one thing you think about, ask yourself, or brainstorm after reading this, please let it be around how you’re being unique in the online business space.
